      Great question!

Unfortunately, in the ocean and lakes, basically all of the water is polluted.

      Isn’t that scary!!

Let’s think of all the different sources:

Have you even been to the beach and seen discarded plastic bottles or plastic carrier bags. This litter could of been blown by the wind into rivers. As all rivers connect to the sea, litter can then be transported into the sea!

People could of also left there litter at the beach, without putting it in the bin.

Ships could be dumping their rubbish at sea.

Plastic can even be found in cosmetics such as facial scrubs. This plastic can be washed down the drains into the sewage system, and then as it is so small it passes through the filtration system and into the ocean.

Can you think of any other ways? There are so many!

Most of the litter is coming from the public. This means you and me.
However, this is also really good as it means we can do something about it!
Lots of people are more aware of the effects all this litter is having on the environment, so are helping protect the ocean!

Many people are going to the beach with friends and family and doing a beach clean. This means that they are picking up all the rubbish they find to make the beach a cleaner place!
People are also following the 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Reducing the amount of litter they produce, reusing items such as plastic bottles rather than throwing them away, and recycling!

It is our ocean, so let us work together to protect it :D!
