I’m pretty sure it does. My friends and housemate say the chemicals they use even professionally can remove natural oils. It’s fine to dye it a couple of times but if you keep dying it without any sort of break then it will be damaged.
So if you do want to dye your hair do it a couple of times then go back to your natural colour for a bit then dye it again.
From personal experience (I have blue hair!) it depends on the dye you use. The brightly coloured dyes I use (I’ve had purple, green, blue and red hair before) aren’t as harmful as some of the dyes you can get, but unfortunately since my natural hair colour is brown I have to bleach it first to get the brighter colours to show up properly, and bleaching does damage your hair! The dyes they use professionally are quite similar to the ones you can use at home (as I understand it anyway) so I imagine they would do a similar amount of damage. I have to use a lot of different conditioners and hair masks on my hair to try and keep it in good condition 🙂
Sorry if you were hoping for a more scientific explanation, but I hope it helped anyway!
I’m sure over time it will. The hair dye is full of chemicals after all and it’s changing the normal colour of the hair. Long term use can’t be good for the hair.
The chemicals make your hair more dry and likely to split!
Make sure your hair keeps getting its natural oil, as this keeps it healthy and strong! By eating the right diet full of protein and vitamin D also keeps your hair in good condition 🙂
