Lab rule no1 : Never Ever eat in the lab. It’s more of a precaution though if you think about all the chemicals and experiements and everything else going on around, it’s really a no no as you never know what the food or your hands may pick up unknowingly.

      No no no and no!

This is for our safety more than anything.

You don’t want to accidentally eat any bad chemicals in the lab! Yuck!

I actually do eat in the lab! I have a big desk, which is 6-10 feet away from my fume hood. I keep my desk free from chemicals at all times so I will sit and eat my lunch at my desk, looking out the window. However, I ALWAYS wash my hands, scrubbing really hard, before I eat my lunch.

It depends on how clean your lab is. You shouldn’t eat in the Lab, as Hephzi says its rule 1 for most of them but Jennifer says she can eat in hers as its less of a problem. For me I can drink tea (I love tea so this is a bonus) in the main lab if I keep it near the door but no food. The clean labs however (see my photo of me dressed up in a white suit) they are sticky no eating or drinking.

Even though my lab is very different to most people’s because there are no dangerous chemicals or anything, it’s still not a good idea to eat in there! We want to try and keep it nice and clean for any visitors, and knowing me I’d probably spill my food in there or something 🙂
